The month of May annually marks Community Living Month across Ontario. It is a month in which we celebrate the gifts and talents that people with intellectual challenges bring to our communities.
On May 1, 2023 Community Living-Fort Erie raised their flag at Town Hall in celebration of Community Living Month.
The flag raising brought people supported, family members, volunteers, staff and other citizens together with Mayor Wayne Redekop to recognize and celebrate the contributions Community Living-Fort Erie has made to our community.
Local singing sensation Selena Carlson sang “This is Me” and “Oh Canada” while raising the Community Living Flag.
Self Advocate and Board member Bobbie Paonessa thanked Mayor Redekop for proclaiming May Community Living month in the town of Fort Erie and acknowledged the positive difference Community Living-Fort Erie has made in her life. Dean Demizio (President of the Board of Directors) stated that “Community Living-Fort Erie has worked hard to ensure that all people are included in their community” and he thanked the Mayor for raising the Community Living flag as a unified message of inclusion.
The Peace Bridge was lit in Blue and Green on May 1, 2023, for the Shine a Light on Community Living Initiative.
On Monday April 24, 2023 Self Advocate and Board member Bobbie Paonessa addressed Mayor Redekop and Town Councilors.
Bobbie requested that Mayor Redekop and Town Counsel proclaim May Community Living Month in the Town of Fort Erie.
She introduced a new organizational video which highlighted the services offered by Community Living-Fort Erie.

Volunteers Help others to Live in Full Bloom
This year’s volunteer Appreciation Dinner was held at the Barrel Restaurant.
The theme was “Volunteers help others to live in Full Bloom”
Thirty four volunteers attended the event.
Community Living-Fort Erie was very excited to welcome ten new volunteers this past year.

The Ridgeway Garden Club donated individual wrapped flower pots to thank all our volunteers.
The flower pots were put together by the Garden Club President and one of our dedicated volunteers Debbie Eggleton
Executive Director Sandy Leemet thanked each volunteer for joining our Volunteer team.
“We truly appreciate you and look forward to seeing more of you over the years ahead”
She added a sincere thank you to all volunteers for the many contributions they have made to Community Living-Fort Erie.
