are our Greatest Resource.

The strength and effectiveness of the Association depends directly upon the contribution made by every employee and volunteer in the agency. We also believe that high productivity and efficiency results from personal job satisfaction.

Recruitment Practices

Community Living – Fort Erie is committed to hiring employees who possess the qualities and competencies required to support people supported by our Agency.

For those candidates who wish to apply for a position in our Agency, we have an online application process. Once the application and resume is received and reviewed by the interview team, successful applicants will be asked to attend an informal meeting with an Office Administrator, at which time they will complete a written interview, and supply a copy of a current Drivers Abstract. Once completed, the results are reviewed by the interview team and a decision is made to go forward with the second interview process.

The second interview consists of a face-to-face Behavior Based Interview with a panel of managers. At this stage the applicant will be asked to bring original copies of any certifications or training they may have. This includes educational credentials (transcripts, diplomas etc.). This is to verify information before a hiring decision can be made. The applicant is also asked if they possess or could obtain a Criminal Reference Certificate with a vulnerable sector search. References are also presented at this time for verification.

A decision is then made to hire successful applicants and inform those not successful. Successful applicants are asked to attend extensive orientation at our office and are provided with a current Job Description and Offer of Employment. Subsequent site orientations then takes place. When complete, the employee will be offered a position if available.

Hiring Criteria

Preference will be given to those applicants who possess a Developmental Services Worker (D.S.W.) or similar two year Community College Certificate in Developmental Disabilities; vocational rehabilitation or related field, supplemented by experience working with people with a developmental disability. B.A. Degree in Social Sciences (Psychology, Sociology or Social Work) supplemented by experience working with people with a developmental disability.

Applicants may be considered who are currently working toward completion of their education, but will be limited to part time positions. These applicants must possess a minimum of three completed courses in a field of study as outlined above. The recruitment and interview process will seek to establish the existence of Core Competencies and in particular Threshold Competencies as established by Provincial Network of Human Resources Community Strategies (PNHRCS) and Ministry of Children Community and Social Services (MCCSS) in each applicant.

Community Living – Fort Erie is committed to developing inclusive, barrier free selection and appointment processes, as well as work environments.
