Why Volunteer?

Give your resume a boost – surveys have been completed by some of Canada’s leading businesses and 73%* said they’d employ someone who’s volunteered over someone who hasn’t.

Get back into work – It’s a great way to get a reference and fill gaps in your work experience. You can also try out different types of work to get a taster – which can really help you if you’re looking for a job or want to change direction.

Improve your confidence – You’ll learn and do things that you might not normally get the chance to – this can be a real confidence boost.

Improve your health – While you’re busy giving back to your community you could also be getting healthier!  Research has found that volunteering can do everything from helping you to sleep better to boosting your immune system.

Meet new people – you’ll probably meet people from different cultures and backgrounds that you might not normally.  Volunteering with people who are as passionate about a cause as you are, is a great way to meet like-minded people.

Make a difference in the lives of others – We have many volunteer positions available to match your skills. Every volunteer position makes a difference in the lives of the people we support. Whether you choose to become a “Leisure Buddy”, a member of our fundraising committee, assist with special projects and events or provide administrative support… you will be making a difference!!

As an employee I feel it is also important to volunteer my time to an agency that has been good to me for 30 years. It is equally important for our community that we depend on for support, to see staff investing in our organization because we believe in the work being done. I want to practice what we preach.

Every time we interact, we leave a little ‘buzz’ in someone’s life. I always want to make it positive. Volunteering is a great way to do so. Volunteering is a great way to meet wonderful and interesting people and feel myself a part of something good. I can compare with a society with lack of volunteering and I have to say, I am glad to see what positive impact volunteering has on Canadian society.
