We held our bi-annual Information Sharing Day at the Italo Canadian Hall on October 20, 2015. We had approximately 60 stakeholders in attendance. The meal provided by Maria Catering was excellent.
In April of 2015, Community Living Fort Erie invested in an online values training resource called Conversations that Matter. Staff have being viewing educational videos monthly. Each video delivers a message which staff are then asked to reflect on how the video impacts on their day to day work. Through reflection staff can grow and identify areas for improvement.
We decided we wanted to impact and reach out to other stakeholders as well by showing a video at our Information Sharing Day. We chose an interview by Fred Ford titled “Can a Group Home be an Institution”. This video discussed how Institutions are not just about large congregate settings and large buildings but they are also a pattern of interactions. He discusses how depersonalization can occur not just in Institutions but in community settings as well. We hope that this video impacted you to affect positive change!!
We also showed a short YouTube video called “Know Your Rights: A Guide for Self Advocates”. We encourage people who were not at this meeting to go on YouTube to watch this educational video. It uses plain language to help people understand what their rights are.
Thank you to all those who attended and we hope to see everyone out at our next meeting in June 2016!!
