Town Hall Presentation to Members of Council
On April 25th 2016 Board President Bob Majkut and Kali Sheridon presented to Mayor Redekop and Members of Council. They shared with Council the great work Community Living~Fort Erie has been doing in our community.
Mr. Majkut asked all the right questions. Don’t you believe that all people should be able to actively participate in all aspects of community life regardless of differing abilities? Shouldn’t our community be a place where people with intellectual challenges are fully included? That our community should ensure that ALL people are included?
He asked for the continued support of each of the Fort Erie Town Counsel representatives so that we can “move forward to ensure that differences are embraced, diversity is respected and people are INCLUDED!” Kali Sheridon proudly shared her many accomplishments and stated that “EVERY PERSON DESERVES TO BE ACCEPTED AND INCLUDED FOR WHO THEY ARE!!”
I have been supported by Community Living~ Fort Erie for 3 years. I wanted to share with you some of the things that
Community Living~Fort Erie has helped me with. Community Living has helped me to find services that I need. Community Living~Fort Erie has helped me to find money that I need to live daily. They helped me to find a safe place to live and feel protected. I am learning how to budget my money, use the transit and how to be more independent. I believe that people with special needs can do the same things as everyone else. I want to be included in my community through work and volunteering. I am looking for a job now. I volunteer at Gilmore Lodge, Community Living and at Ridgeway Fest.
I want to be accepted for WHO .. I AM ! EVERY PERSON DESERVES TO BE ACCEPTED AND INCLUDED FOR WHO THEY ARE!!
I believe I should have the same rights as everyone else. I need to be active in my community and involved in the things I enjoy! I have set goals like finding a job and getting my own apartment. I am a girlfriend, a neighbour, a member of the Fort Erie YMCA, a Student of Fort Erie Secondary School and a FRIEND. I am funny, I am kind and helpful. I love being with children and seniors. I like to talk a lot …. Enjoy working on my laptop, gardening, reading, knitting, and going for walks and bike rides. I am one of a kind! I feel I am accepted in my community as a person … and this is very important for ALL people. I am a part of my community.
Community Living~Fort Erie has helped me reach goals and be included. I am proud of what I have completed with their help. Thank you for allowing me to share with you today.”
Thank you to everyone that came out to support the presentation!
